What is Wunder Gym? Wunder Gym is a practical art program to stretch and satisfy your creative curiosity. Emerging, established or simply curious creatives will delight in the opportunity to extend their skills and practice through unique project briefs, artist mentorships and group exhibitions.
I am excited to be participating in three upcoming online exhibitions, the first with mentor Tai Snaith who challenged participants with the theme ‘A Handful of Hen’s Teeth’. Although there were some delays with opening night due to Covid-19 and the restrictions in Metropolian Melbourne, we’re pleased that exhibition went ahead as planned.
31 October marked the opening of the Wunder Gym Wyndham Group Exhibition, where Wunder Gym guest mentor Tai Snaith prompted artists to ask the allusive question; What was the starting point? What inspired this work?
For the theme for this exhibition being, ‘A Handful of Hen’s Teeth’ my inspiration was the connection between a parent and child. Their relationship being built on many moments that are rough and jagged, similar to the edges and corners of teeth. Despite these differences, these moments are precious. Any relationship that is completely smooth and without differences, is as rare as hen’s teeth.
Although this artwork was created with coloured pencils, I wanted to approach it differently by using rough paper and hold back on the details.

Artwork Description The connection of one generation to the next is a precious thing, especially between a parent and child. Their relationship is to be nurtured throughout a lifetime. Understanding and respect does not always come easily. There will be many moments that are rough and jagged, similar to the edges and corners of teeth. Despite these differences, these moments are to be held dear regardless. Any relationship that is completely smooth and without differences, is as rare as hen’s teeth.
